The OVC Smith Lane Animal Hospital recommends a vaccination protocol following the guidelines set out by the American Animal Hospital Association (for dogs) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (for cats).

Vaccinating your pet against common diseases is a very easy method of prevention that will keep your pet safe for many years and save you the trouble of future medical problems and costs. Most vaccinations can be offered in a single dose or in combination with other vaccines to decrease the amount of stress on your pet. It is important to talk with your veterinarian about the proper vaccination schedule for your pet in order to come up with the best plan that will keep your pet healthy.

Young pets require vaccinations to “boost” their immune system in their defence against certain known diseases. Adult pets require annual vaccinations in order to provide continued support to their immune system once they have fully matured.
